A medical coder is a translator of medical documentation. Medical coders review patient’s medical records and translate physician’s (or other healthcare providers) documentations from hospital admission into universal codes required by insurance companies and government agencies. Medical coders work behind the scenes to ensure healthcare facilities and providers get payment for their services.
